4 Postues/Propositions Of The Modern Cells Theory

4 postues/propositions of the modern cells theory

There are three postulates of cell theory. These were organized knowledge and findings from many studies done on cells. Robert Hooke opened the doors to studying the cells when he discovered them in cork cells. Postulates were laid out after by succeeding scientists. The first two were laid out by cell theory scientists Schleiden and Schwann from their researches about plant and animal cells.

Listed below are the postutes and their explanations.

  1. Cell is the basic unit of all lifeforms. The smallest unit of life is cell. All the functions of life begin and end in a cell. This means that all other objects that are not made up of cells are considered nonliving things.
  2. All organisms are composed of cells and are product of cells. Since cell is the starting point of life, it is best to conclude that all organisms are made up of cells. However, remember that there are organisms which are unicellular, they are still organisms though, since they are cells themselves.
  3. Cells come from pre-existing cells. No cells can arise from nonliving matter. This postulate explains that no organisms can arise from nonliving matter as believed in the earlier parts of human history. They used to believe that flies emerged from rotting meat or food. This was disproved when Pasteur made his experiment with the broth in the flask .
