In biology, monohybrid means single trait. This term is usually encountered when a cross for a single trait between two organisms are done. For example, we do monohybrid cross test to find out the possible heights of the F1 of pea plants that you want to breed. Monohybrid cross allows us to make it easier to study heredity on a single factor. This kind of test cross was done and studied intensely by Gregor Mendel. Mendel was an Austrian monk that had interest in how traits are inherited from parents to offspring. He studied this using pea plants even before the science of genetics was established, making him the father of modern genetics.
